Frequently Asked Questions
Here are answers to the most common questions about working with Cedric.
Your Questions, Answered
What makes therapy with you different?
▶
I’m deeply committed to providing affirming, culturally humble support. I work with LGBTQ+ youth, neurodivergent clients, immigrants, BIPOC individuals, and those involved in legal or immigration systems. My goal is for you to feel seen, respected, and valued for your whole identity—not just for what you struggle with.
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
▶
If you’re feeling unseen, silenced, overwhelmed by identity questions, legal or immigration stress, or trauma—even if you’re not sure what’s “wrong”—therapy can help. It’s a space to explore what you’re going through, understand your challenges, and begin to heal. You don’t need to wait until things feel unbearable to reach out.
What happens in a first session?
▶
Our initial session is designed to be a comfortable and informative experience. Prior to our meeting, you will receive access to a secure client portal to complete necessary forms, enabling us to delve directly into understanding your needs. We will discuss your current challenges and delve into your history to create a tailored treatment plan aligned with your goals, ensuring a collaborative approach tailored to your unique circumstances. We’ll start by getting to know each other: your background, what’s bringing you to therapy, what your goals are. We’ll go over confidentiality, any legal or immigration elements to consider, and decide on what approaches (CBT, Mindfulness, IFS, Somatic, or Brainspotting) might work best. I’ll also invite you to ask all your questions—to make sure you feel safe and understood.
How should I prepare for my first session?
▶
Before our first meeting, you’ll be sent a link to the client portal to fill out intake forms (e.g. history, identity, your current concerns). You might also find it helpful to think about what you want to get out of therapy: types of goals, what feels hard right now, what feels important. And just bring yourself—whatever identity or story you carry is welcomed.
How long will therapy last / how often will we meet?
▶
It depends on your needs. Some people benefit from just a few sessions; others find longer-term work helpful, especially with complex trauma, legal or immigration stress, or identity exploration. We’ll talk together to find a pace and schedule (weekly, biweekly, or something else) that feels sustainable and meaningful for you.
How will I know if therapy is helping?
▶
We’ll set clear goals together at the start (e.g., feeling safer in your identity, decreasing anxiety, improving coping skills). Periodically, we’ll pause and check-in—how you’re feeling, what’s improving, what still feels stuck. Therapy is not always linear; there may be tough spots, but you should see signs of shift, even if small.
What if I need to stop or take a break?
▶
You are always in control of this process. If you feel like you need to stop, pause, or reduce frequency, we will talk about it. Ending therapy can be a healthy step when goals are met—or sometimes temporary interruptions are necessary, and we can plan for that together.
How do you protect my privacy, especially in legal or immigration-related work?
▶
I use HIPAA-compliant tools for communications, documentation, and intake. When conducting psychological evaluations for immigration or legal relief, I adhere strictly to confidentiality, ethical obligations, and provide clear information about how your information may be used or shared. I’ll always discuss the limits of confidentiality with you up front.
What are your fees, payment options, and insurance?
▶
My standard session rates vary depending on treatment type (e.g., Individual vs. Family Therapy, legal evaluations, etc.). In our first consultation, we’ll decide what’s appropriate.
I accept payment via credit/debit card, HSAs, FSAs, and can issue superbills if your insurance allows out-of-network reimbursement.
If finances are a barrier, let’s talk—I have options to discuss sliding scale or adjusted schedules when possible.
What is your no-show / cancellation policy?
▶
I require 48-hour notice for cancellation or rescheduling. For missed appointments or late cancellations, the full session fee applies. For intake or consultation sessions, a credit card may be required to reserve the spot. If something urgent comes up, I’m open to discussing it—communication is key.
